This workshop is suitable for any age group. The workshop can be tailored to reflect the key stage that they are undertaking.

To develop drawing and visual observation skills

Project aims and key learning objectives

To introduce the children to drawing as a tool using historical and contemporary examples.
To develop their practical techniques using different medium i.e Charcoal, pencil etc
To develop their practical skills in mark making, composition and texture
To develop collaborative skills by working on group drawings
To process and analyse the outcomes of their work

Materials required

Various papers – brown paper, newsprint etc.
Pencil
Charcoal
Ink
Pastels

Project timetable

The workshop can be tailored to the Schools individual needs. However a minimum of two hours is recommended.

Depending on the length of the workshop an introduction using power point presentation of artists drawings both historical and contemporary

Practical work

Creating a still life out of everyday objects or nature.

The five-minute exercise.
Each child begins to draw the still life for 3 seconds then 15 seconds, 30 seconds,
One minute and then finally five minutes.

To only draw the textures of the still life

Collaboration

The class is divided into groups and each member of each group draws ten lines of the still life, the next child continues until all members have created a collaborative drawing.
